Description
An attractive pictorial map published in 1946 by Pan American Airlines (PAA), as part of its "World of Neighbors" calendar. The globe-shaped image offers a summation of the numerous milestones in Pan Am's history since its initial establishment in 1927 when it offered a mail & passenger-carrying service from Key West Florida to Havana in Cuba. It illustrates the first flights across the Atlantic & Pacific Oceans, its immense significance as a wartime cargo carrier and post-war mercy shipment transporter and its increasingly influential role around the globe, especially in such far-flung places as Alaska; Africa; China and South America. Important passengers are also recorded, including the likes of Roosevelt & Einsenhower, whilst the Company's professional engineers, lab technicians and meteorologists are also profiled. The accompanying image of the long-haul Clipper and World map further highlight Pan Am's post-war aims to become a truly global airline and one fostering the closer connectivity of this new "World of Neighbors".
